Glee: Finn and Puck

When anyone brings up musicals, the TV series ‘Glee’ always comes to mind. The characters deal with numerous issues throughout the show especially regarding their relationships; including Finn and Puck. These formal roommates were known to be best of friends but was that really true?

Their friendship is filled with bullying, jealousy and lies, which we think are all toxic traits no matter what the circumstance is. Puck gets angry when Finn refuses to bully a kid(?). If that isn’t the definition of toxic behavior I’m not sure what is. Both resort to violence as a solution to their problems on numerous occasions.

Although all friendships aren’t perfect, after a point we have to ask if it’s really worth it. And when it comes to Puck and Finn’s friendship, we’re not very sure it is.

Gossip Girl: Serena and Blair:

Along with all the dramatic upper east siders’ first world problems, Gossip Girl also thrives on toxic relationships. A show filled with backstabbing plots, lack of trust, loyalty, various volatile dynamics; it features one of the most iconic friendship duos—Serena and Blair—who prove to be no different. Although we root for them to be besties forever, they’re almost always in a power struggle that never seems to end.

They’ve used and thrown each other under the bus every chance they get, going so far as to even use their secrets to get the deed done. That doesn’t seem all too normal and healthy.

While constantly trying to prove that they’re ‘friendship goals’, there’s little to no respect between S & B which makes their relationship far too toxic and destructive to keep track of for us.

The Office: Todd Packer and Micheal Scott

We all fear how much we love him. Michael Scott is a cherished character that defines The Office. However his taste was somewhat questionable when it came to his friendship with Todd Packer. Packer’s introduction to the show involves previous sexual harassment instances against him causing which is a pretty bad first impression and his insensitive comments make everyone evidently uncomfortable, following up with insincere apologies.

Michael’s friendship with Packer was more in fact an infatuation with packers lifestyle; a way for him to live vicariously through his friend, who was living his dreams. Eventually even Michael admits to what a toxic person Packer is. Would anyone really want a friendship that superficial? “No god please no,” is what we have to say.

Riverdale: Betty and Veronica

Betty and Veronica. B and V. Iconic and inseparable. Disastrous and destructive. Betty and Veronica’s friendship may look like sunshine and rainbows from the outside, but once you take a closer look, you’ll realize that their relationship isn’t all that. They got off to a rocky start and both seem to have no respect for each other’s feelings or any sense of loyalty since throughout the show, one can be seen with the other’s love interest behind each other’s backs.

Veronica is guilty of peer pressuring Betty and Betty is known to have difficulty differentiating Veronica from her father, ultimately blaming her for all of his actions. Trust is not a virtue in their relationship as neither have any qualms about hitting below the belt. Their lack of fundamental understanding in many of their interactions causes us to think twice about their entire friendship.
